Admission for pregnant patients
- Admit to OBGYN if: primary reason for admission is related to the pregnancy (ex: hyperemesis, vaginal bleeding in late pregnancy, PPROM, mastitis)
- Admit to medicine with OB consult otherwise
Colonoscopy
To arrange for OP colonoscopy, patient must see their PCP or have a CCC visit.
Do not refer these patients directly to GI.
Gallstone disease
- Admit to medicine if: Contraindication to surgery, severe sepsis, or acalculous cholecystitis
- Admit to surgery for all other gallstone pathologies (even if ERCP needed)
ingested foreign body
Consult ENT if: foreign body located above the level of the clavicle
Consult GI if: foreign body located below clavicle, pre-pylorus AND one of the following:
- Button battery, magnets, sharp object, or object > 6cm
- Unable to tolerate PO or complete obstruction
- Object present >24h
Consult TACS if: post-pylorus AND one of the following:
- Button battery, magnets, sharp object, or large object
- Concern for perforation
- Unable to tolerate PO
